Congratulations to Alan Ciwan the winner of Hughes Electronics' latest innovation prize.
Alan’s innovation is a device designed to speed up the process of untwisting pairs in multi-pair communication cables. The device which fits any electric screwdriver or drill bit saves hours of processing time in an otherwise labor intensive process.
Alan a member of the Hughes production team for 2 years had his eureka moment after many hours of untwisting pairs during the manufacturing process of Cat 5e, Cat 6 and Cat 6a patch leads.
Alan is seen here receiving his prize from Greg Rymar, head of R&D at Hughes, who also helped by creating 3d renderings for product prototyping.
Alan told the news board:
“After making thousands of patch leads I realized that a relatively simple process like untwisting the wires can be very hard and time consuming. That's when I had an idea of the device that could make this process easier and faster.”
Greg commented: “What Alan did is pure essence of our Hughes culture – we make good ideas happen”.
Glyn Hughes C.E.O of Hughes Electronics summed up by saying, ''Companies are defined by the commitment and problem solving abilities of their personnel - Alan and his invention exemplifies the innovative can do spirit of Hughes Electronics - I'm proud and humbled to be part of the team and privileged to be able to bring such an array of talented people to the service of our clients''.
