An optoelectronic device, which could include an amplifier, that receives a signal and amplifies it, especially in the case of analog signals. In the case of a digital signal, the optical repeater reshapes or retimes the signal and then retransmits it.

Starts with red, then orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and finally violet. Each color represents a wavelength or frequency of electromagnetic energy; the spectrum is between 400nm and 700nm. 400nm is the ultraviolet portion of the spectrum and 700nm is the infrared portion of the spectrum.

A device used to split fiber-optic signals.

The portion of a fiber-optic receiver that guides light from the optical fiber to the photodiode.

An optoelectronic circuit that converts an electronic signal into an optical signal.

Any structure that can guide light; the optical waveguide is a nonconductive material with a central core of optically transparent material (usually silica glass) surrounded by a transparent cladding material that has a lower refractive index than the core.

An assembly consisting of one or more optical fibers. These optical fibers are thin glass or plastic filaments used for the transmission of information via light signals. The individual optical fibers are the signal carrying part of a fiber-optic cable. See also single-mode fiber and multimode fiber.

A mechanical media termination device designed to align and join two duplex connectors.

A mechanical media termination device designed to transfer optical power between two pairs of optical fibers.

The process which follows a drive test of a given Cluster and which is intended to make adjustments to the performance of a site or sites to improve the corresponding cluster coverage and/or capacity.

Any device that uses or responds to optical power in its internal operation.

ORL is a ratio expressed in decibels. The reflection is caused by a component or an assembly.

Typically used outside of the wire center but also may be routed into the CEF. Since OSP cables are more flammable than premises (indoor) cables, the distance of penetration into the building must be limited.
